British Virgin Islands Prove Popular among Private Equity Investors

01 Apr 2010

The British Virgin Islands ("BVI") is a popular jurisdiction for private equity investors to set up vehicles for investing worldwide. Recent developments that have further enhanced the BVI's attractiveness include the Hong Kong securities regulators' agreement to let BVI-domiciled companies list their shares on the local stock exchange. This regulatory decision has opened a major route for private equity investors to exit their holdings in China.

Maples and Calder in the BVI has recently advised on the AIM listing of MDM Engineering, the NASDAQ listing of Origin Agritech Limited and on the business combination by NASDAQ-listed special purpose acquisition company DJSP Enterprises, Inc.

Please see the attached article which discusses the benefits of BVI incorporation in relation to public listings. It was first published on finalternatives.com.
