Maples advises on the acquisition of Xtra-vision

14 Jun 2013

The Irish office of international law firm Maples and Calder (“Maples”) is delighted to have advised Hilco Capital on its recent acquisition of Xtra-vision.

Hilco Capital, the restructuring and turnaround specialist, has confirmed the acquisition of Xtra-vision from the company’s Receivers, including stores in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.  Xtra-vision is one of Ireland's best known retail brands and has a leading position in rental and retail of both Film and Games, along with a growing presence in Music, Mobile Telephony, a range of Consumer Electronic products and Confectionery.

Xtra-vision will now join HMV in Hilco’s $1bn turnover international entertainment retail division.

Paul McGowan, CEO of Hilco Capital said, “Xtra-vision is a very strong brand in the Irish market and we are happy to add it to our fast-growing Entertainment Division. It is a good fit alongside HMV which we now operate in the UK, Ireland and Canada.”

Maples drew on a broad range of expertise including banking, corporate, tax, property, employment and insolvency specialists to advise Hilco on the multidisciplinary elements involved in the transaction.

This deal further enhances Maples' Dublin reputation as leading corporate counsel for private equity in the area of distressed acquisitions, having previously advised Hilco Capital on the restructure and sale of A-Wear.
