Maples Advises Pleiad Investment Advisors on its First Private Equity Fund
16 Dec 2020
Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm is pleased to have advised Pleiad Investment Advisors ("PIA") on the establishment of its first private equity fund, Pleiad-Minerva Japan Growth Opportunities LP.
PIA is an independent investment manager based in Hong Kong, with a geographic focus on the Asia Pacific region. PIA, together with Minerva Growth Partners, launched Pleiad-Minerva Japan Growth Opportunities LP, a technology-focused growth equity fund that was formed as a Cayman Islands exempted limited partnership. The fund targets total capital commitments of JPY 15 billion (US$145 million) for growth capital investments primarily in late-stage, private start-ups in Japan.
A team based in the Group's law firm in Hong Kong, acted as Cayman Islands legal counsel to PIA. The team was led by Funds & Investment Management Partner, Ann Ng and assisted by Associate, Dan Won.
Baker McKenzie acted as Hong Kong and US legal counsel to PIA.
Commenting on the transaction, Ann Ng said, "We continue to see more hedge fund managers venturing into private investments and other illiquid assets and we anticipate that trend to continue into 2021. We were delighted to support our longstanding client PIA on its first private equity fund."
