Maples Group Appoints Nick Evans as Head of Jersey Law Firm

31 May 2021

Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Evans, a senior Partner with the international firm, as Head of Office in Jersey. Nick takes office on 1 June, succeeding Chris Byrne who returns to practise as a Corporate and Finance Partner having served a successful three year term as Jersey Office Managing Partner.

Nick, a highly experienced Corporate and Funds & Investment Management lawyer, is well-placed to take on the position having played an instrumental role in the launch of the full-service Jersey law firm and has been actively involved in its management ever since. He has been with the Maples Group for over 20 years and relocates to Jersey from the Group's London office where he most recently served as a Corporate Partner. Prior to that, Nick spent a number of years in the Group's Cayman Islands office.

With extensive expertise in Cayman Islands law, Nick's arrival also expands the Group's legal offering in Jersey and will certainly support the high volume of multi-jurisdictional and cross-border transactions that the team currently manage from Jersey.  He has advised many of the world's largest financial institutions, investment managers, investors and their onshore counsel on the structuring, formation and operation of a wide range of investment fund structures and is consistently endorsed by clients in many of the international legal directories.  He will work alongside Jersey practice group leaders Chris Byrne, Paul Burton, Mark Crichton, Simon Hopwood and Tim Morgan to further expand and develop the firm's growing Corporate, Finance and Funds & Investments Management practices in Jersey.  In addition to his executive and leadership duties in Jersey, Nick will retain his current Cayman Islands Corporate and Investment Funds practice.

Commenting on his appointment, Nick said, "I am delighted to be back in Jersey, having spent three years here in the mid-2000s. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to lead the Jersey law firm and build on the growth of the firm that has been achieved during Chris's leadership. I look forward to working more closely with the fantastic team here to continue to provide the most comprehensive support, expertise and insight to our clients."

Commenting on the appointment, Global Managing Partner, Jonathan Green said, "Chris Byrne has done a remarkable job in establishing, leading and growing our Jersey law firm.  We are delighted to build on this success and to support the continued expansion of the Jersey office with Nick's relocation from London.  Nick has been an integral part of the Maples Group's Corporate and Funds & Investment Management teams for over 20 years and I know that Nick is very much looking forward to working with Chris and the team in Jersey."
