Maples Group Announces Two New Partnerships with UCC and DCU
23 Jun 2021
Maples and Calder (Ireland) LLP, the Maples Group's law firm is pleased to announce two new Irish university partnerships with University College Cork (UCC) and Dublin City University (DCU), both of which commence this year and offer students access to third level education and workplace opportunities.
A new scholarship programme for business students studying Business Law at UCC, the 'Maples Group Scholarship - LLM in Business Law' will benefit one postgraduate student studying for the LLM in Business Law each year, with each successful student receiving a scholarship of €5,000. To be eligible for the scholarships, students must secure a minimum of a 2.1 grade in an approved primary degree or equivalent; have applied for the LLM in Business Law programme via the UCC applications system, and have received an offer and accepted a place. The judging panel will include a representative from the Maples Group and recipients will be selected based on an interview and the submission of a short personal statement.
Additionally, the Maples Group is also proud to announce that it is supporting the DCU Access to the Workplace Programme this year. As part of this partnership, the firm has offered a DCU Access student a place in their Virtual Professional Internship Programme this summer.
Speaking about the university programmes, Graduate Recruitment Partner at the Maples Group, Patrick Quinlan said, "We are really happy to work with The UCC School of Law and the DCU Access to the Workplace Programme to enable promising students to reach their full potential and avail of opportunities that otherwise might not have been possible. At the Maples Group, we genuinely believe in nurturing talent, and want to encourage students to consider having successful and fulfilling careers in the legal sector."
Ireland Managing Partner, Nicholas Butcher also commented, "We chose to support these universities as we are passionate about creating equality of access to both third level education and to the workplace as we know that diversity and inclusivity are absolutely key to the success of any business. In addition, we were really pleased to offer a DCU Access student a place in our virtual Professional Internship Programme this summer."
These initiatives form part of a wider range of on-and-off campus activities in Ireland that the Maples Group is proud to support, such as the Trinity Access and Pathways to Law programmes, a University Student Placement Programme and the ELSA (European Law Students Association) student placement programme. The Group's annual Professional Internship Programme launched on 31 May and will take place over a four week period on a fully virtual basis for the second year running.
