Maples Group Appoints Litigation Partner Duo as Global Practice Co-Leaders

21 Mar 2023

The Maples Group is pleased to announce the appointment of James Eldridge and Caroline Moran as co-heads of its Global Dispute Resolution & Insolvency ("DR&I") practice. These appointments follow the recent retirement of Aristos Galatopoulos from the firm.

James and Caroline bring a wealth of experience and expertise to their new roles, having served as key members of the international practice for over 15 years and have been involved in many of the firm's flagship commercial litigation, insolvency and restructuring engagements. As co-heads of the firm's Cayman Islands DR&I practice, their leadership, expertise, and commitment to client service have been instrumental in the growth and success of the global practice.

With dedicated DR&I practices in the British Virgin Islands ("BVI"), Cayman Islands, Dublin and Hong Kong, James and Caroline will work closely with regional DR&I leaders, John Trehey (Asia), Robin McDonnell (Ireland) and Adrian Francis (BVI).

James, a highly experienced commercial litigation, insolvency and restructuring lawyer, has over 20 years' experience practising in international litigation, having worked for two leading law firms in Australia prior to relocating to the Cayman Islands in 2006. He specialises in insolvency-related issues, advising financial institutions, investors and insolvency practitioners and has particular expertise in assisting investors, creditors, managers and independent directors of distressed funds and structured finance vehicles.  He also has extensive experience in complex fraud litigation and with shareholder disputes. James regularly appears as counsel in the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands, both on interlocutory applications and at trial.  Recent high-profile cases include the Traded Life Policies Fund fraud litigation, the China Shanshui Cement shareholder litigation, and the ongoing China Evergrande restructuring.

With over 20 years' experience in international litigation and insolvency, Caroline is well-known and highly regarded in her field of practice.  She focuses on high value commercial litigation, cross border restructuring and insolvency, in particular contentious and non-contentious restructurings, liquidations, schemes of arrangement and fund wind downs. She continues to lead on high value s.238 appraisal cases and has delivered some of the jurisdiction's most high profile restructurings. She was also involved in spearheading the recent legislative reforms to the Cayman Islands restructuring regime.

Commenting on the appointments, Global Managing Partner, Jonathan Green said, "Our global Dispute Resolution & Insolvency practice is regularly involved in high-stakes litigation, dispute resolution, restructuring and insolvency matters and is trusted by our international clients to advise on some of the most complex, cross border engagements.
