Maples Group Advises Hong Kong Investment Manager Relating to Inaugural Fund
16 May 2024
Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is pleased to have advised Torito Capital Limited ("Torito"), a Hong Kong-based investment manager, in connection with the launch of its inaugural fund, the Torito Offshore Feeder Fund and Torito Master Fund (together, the "Fund"). Torito will employ an equity long-short strategy by primarily investing in equity markets within the Asia-Pacific region, with an initial focus on Greater China and Japan-related equities and equity related derivatives.
A team of lawyers based in the firm's Hong Kong office, led by head of the Asia Funds & Investment Management practice, Ann Ng and assisted by Associate, Kai Liu acted as Cayman Islands legal counsel to Torito. The team provided Cayman Islands legal support to Torito and worked closely with other counterparties to Torito to ensure a successful and timely launch of the Fund.
Commenting on the launch, Ann said, "We are delighted to have assisted Torito on the launch of its inaugural fund. Looking ahead, we anticipate that the China market will begin to recover in the early part of 2025 and growth of the economy and investment activity in the Asia-Pacific region will continue to be strong. The Maples Group has the unique ability to provide multi-jurisdictional legal advice from our Hong Kong and Singapore offices ensuring that we provide clients with the bespoke support they need within time zones convenient to their business. We hope to continue supporting the Torito team on more exciting opportunities in the future."
The Maples Group has one of the largest offshore Funds & Investment Management team in the Asia Pacific region with specialist lawyers based in both Hong Kong and Singapore providing on the ground support to investment managers in the region. The team has advised some of the most successful managers in Asia on not only fund launches, but also on high-profile portfolio investments and divestments, secondaries deals and top-tier restructurings.
